TSU Basketball Hosts Eastern Kentucky in OVC Double Header
Nashville, Tenn. - The Lady Tigers and Tigers will host Eastern Kentucky in conference play during McDonald's Kids Night, Saturday, Jan. 3rd. The women's game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff with the men's game immediately following.
The Lady Tigers (5-8, 1-1) are coming off an 80-78 win over Grambling State University on Tuesday and are looking to extend their home winning streak to four games.
TSU will face EKU for the 43rd time with the Colonels (4-6, 1-1) holding a 31-11 advantage. In the last meeting, TSU claimed a 68-66 victory in McBrayer Arena. The Lady Tigers are led in scoring by Kendra Appling (17.7 ppg), Tiffany Jackson (16.3 ppg) and Jasmine Smith (16.0 ppg).
Kayla Drake leads the Colonels with 15.8 points per game and are coming off a win versus Blufield College, 70-37.
On the men's side, The Tigers (3-9, 1-1) are fresh off a tough loss to Georgia Tech on Tuesday, 63-58 and are looking to snap a five-game skid. TSU returns home to the Gentry Center after playing on the road in their last seven games (1-6).
The Tigers and the Colonels (7-5, 1-1) go head-to-head for their 42nd meeting in which EKU holds the series, 21-20. The last time the teams matched up, TSU won, 89-70. The Tigers will look for strong peformances from leading scorers Gerald Robinson, Jr. (19.2 ppg), Jerrell Houston (13.7 ppg) and Darius Cox (11.5 ppg).
The Colonels dropped their last two games (Cinncinnati and IU Northwest) and are led in scoring by Mike Rose (19.5 ppg) and Papa Oppong (11.6 ppg).
