Men and Women's Basketball Jump Start Regular Season with State Farm Tip-Off Night

Tennessee State University Basketball Opens Season with Men and Women's Double-Header 

Nashville, Tenn. – TSU men and women's basketball teams will open the 2008-09 season with the State Farm Tip-Off Night inside the Gentry Center, Friday, November 14th. 

All fans in attendance have a chance to win great prizes from their local State Farm agents.  

The Lady Tigers will face Jackson State in non-conference play. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. The last the two Lady Tiger squads met was during the 2003-04 season with JSU defeating TSU, 70-35. JSU holds the series record, 7-0.

The Lady Tigers come off an exhibition win against Bluefield College, 75-54. Senior and Preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference guard Kendra Appling led all scorers with 20 points. Tiffany Jackson added a double-double with 18 points and 12 boards.

Following the women's game, the men's team will face non-conference opponent, the Bulldogs of Cumberland University at 7:30 p.m. Last year TSU met the Bulldogs in play for the first time with the Tigers taking the win, 85-75.

The Tigers won both of their exhibition games with wins over Trevecca Nazarene, 101-75, and Kentucky State, 86-67.

All-OVC Preseason Team selections, Gerald Robinson, Jr. and Jerrell Houston both scored 20 points or more in both games. Houston scored 20 points against Trevecca Nazarene and tallied a double-double to lead all scorers with 21 points (12 rebounds) against KSU. Robinson scored 20 points in both contests.

The men's game will follow immediately after the women's play. Both games will be broadcast on and (WTST, TSU campus radio).
