Tennis Travels to UT Martin for OVC Play

Tiger Tennis will look for their first win of the season against UT Martin

Nashville, Tenn. – The Tennessee State University tennis teams will travel to Martin, Tenn. to face UT Martin in conference play at the Skyhawks Tennis Courts, Sunday, March 15th, with a 1 p.m. start.

Both Tiger squads are still in search of their first win of the season both posting a 0-3 overall record, 0-2 in the Ohio Valley Conference. The women are led by Meagan Haynes (0-3) and Dania Lofton (1-2) and are coming off a 7-0 loss to Murray State on last Thursday.

The men are fresh off a heartbreaking 7-0 loss to Murray State and are suffering with a depleted roster giving up two games by default per match. Justin Hamm (1-2), Aaron Fields (1-2) and Michael Mosley (1-2) have posted the only single-game wins for TSU this season.

UTM women's team (5-4, 1-0 OVC) snapped a two-game losing streak with a 4-3 win over Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Fla. on March 10th. They are led by Ernestine Koornhof (4-4) and are 24-29 (.453) overall in singles competition with a .654 (17-9) average in doubles competition.

The Skyhawks' men have lost their last two including a 5-2 defeat to Jacksonville University (3/10/09). Andrey Yesipov (6-1) and Stephen Bruwer (5-2) lead their team who has posted a 20-22 (.476) overall singles competition record going 6-13 (.316) in doubles. 

Next up, TSU will host Western Kentucky in non conference play on Friday, March 20th. Match time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
