MEET INFOMEET SCHEDULE 

UAB GREEN AND GOLD INVITATIONAL

STARTING LINE: The Tennessee State men's and women's track and field team hit the road for its first-of-three indoor meets at the Birmingham CrossPlex. The two-day UAB Green and Gold Invite begins, Friday, Jan. 24, with events wrapping up on Jan. 25. 

THE FIELD: Shorter, UALR, Tennessee Tech, Jackson State, Alabama, Troy, UT-Tyler, Alabama State, New Orleans, Sewanee, Middle Tennessee, Tennessee State, Saint Leo, UT-Chattanooga, Alcorn State, Texas Southern, Bryan College, UAB

LAST TIME OUT: In day one of the University of Kentucky Jim Green Invitational, R’Lazon Brumfield placed first in the long jump with a leap of 7.39m while Ashley Bailey qualified for the semifinals in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.54.On day two, he men had four top-10 performances in including Brumfield, who was just .14m short of the top spot in the triple jump registering 15.95m. Freshman Jaedon Jones helped the Flying Tigers in the high jump finishing eighth. On the track, Michael Thompson placed seventh in a group of 40 competitors crossing the finish line in 48.74.

The Tigerbelles completed day one at the University of Kentucky Jim Green Invitational successfully, with junior phenom Mikayla Thompson and senior Amani Taylor finishing in the top half of competitors in the weight throw with Thompson tossing 17.35m while Taylor threw a 15.90m. Thompson and Angel Horton marked top-ten finishes on the final day as Thompson placed fourth with a toss of 15.40m in the shot put while Angel Horton leapt 11.69m in the triple jump. Alysoune Coleman led the Tigers on the track with a 12th place finish in the 400m dash among 37 competitors.

IN THE NATION: TSU junior R’Lazon Brumfield currently ranks sixth in the nation in the triple jump with a leap of 15.96m at the Purdue Fred Wilt Open, and 12th in the nation in the long jump after a 7.62m mark at the Edward Temple Classic.  Mikayla Thompson ranks 42nd in the shot put thanks to her performance at the Jim Green Invite. 

UP NEXT: TSU will compete in the Samford Invite Feb. 14-15.
