Brumfield and Faison Earn OVC Weekly Awards

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. --- Tennessee State men’s track and field earned a pair of Ohio Valley Conference weekly awards on Wednesday, it was announced by the league office. R’Lazon Brumfield earned adidas OVC Field Athlete of the Week, and James Faison was honored as the adidas OVC Co-Track Athlete of the Week.

  • Faison, the reigning OVC Track Athlete of the Year for the indoor season, opened the outdoor campaign with a strong performance at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational.
  • The senior from Decatur, Ga. produced four top five finishes. Faison won the 400m in 48.57 – the second-best time in the OVC this season.
  • In the 200m, Faison took second after clocking in at 21.30, the best time in the OVC and the 32nd best among NCAA Division I runners this outdoor season.
  • Faison also helped TSU captured fifth in both the 4x100m relay and the 4x400m relay.
  • Brumfield won the triple jump at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational with a distance of 15.20m (49’10.5”) – good enough for first in the OVC and 10th in the nation this outdoor season.
  • He also placed second in the long jump with a mark of 7.28m (23’10.75”).
  • His long jump distance ranks second in the OVC and 24th in the nation.
