BRENTWOOD, Tenn. --- The Tennessee State men’s track and field team picked up a pair of adidas Ohio Valley Conference weekly awards with senior James Faison earning Co-Track Athlete of the Week and freshman R’Lazon Brumfield earning Co-Field Athlete of the Week, it was announced on Wednesday.
For Faison, it is his third OVC award this season, while Brumfield secured his second weekly award. The duo earned the honors on Wednesday thanks to their performances at the Thundering Herd Invitational last week.
Faison picked up second-place finishes in the 200m and the 400m. The senior set a personal record in the 200m, clocking in at 21.41. The time is the best in the OVC this season and 65th best in the nation. In the 400m, Faison’s time of 48.19 was also good for second place.
Brumfield earned two top five finishes at the Thundering Herd Invitational. He secured second in the triple jump with a distance of 49’7.75” (15.13m), marking the fourth time reaching 15.00m or better this season. No other OVC jumper has hit the 15.00m mark this year. He also finished fourth in the long jump with a mark of 22’1.75”.
