STARTING LINE: The Flying Tigers are less than a month away from the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championship with another chance to build on strong results from earlier in the season. TSU is competing in the state of Tennessee for the fourth time this indoor season with the MTSU Invitational on Saturday.
ABOUT THE FIELD: The men’s field includes TSU, Middle Tennessee, Eastern Kentucky, Belmont and Chattanooga.
LAST TIME OUT: Facing difficult competition at the Gladstein Invitational on Jan. 22-23, the Flying Tigers turned in a number of strong performances. Most notably, Quamel Prince placed second in the 800m in 1:51.81, which was his second-fastest time of the season. In the field events, Shaquille Cragwall took fourth in the triple jump (14.59m) and ninth in the high jump (1.92m)
MAKING NEWS: Quamel Prince has earned Adidas Ohio Valley Conference Track Athlete of the Week twice this season. Prince’s 1:51.13 time in the 800m at the Vanderbilt Opener is good for 69th in the nation. Also ranking near the top in the nation are Kareem Nicholas (70th in the triple jump, 75th in the long jump) and Shaquille Cragwall (73rd in the triple jump). Cragwall is another OVC honoree, taking home Adidas OVC Field Athlete of the Week.
UP NEXT: TSU will travel to Birmingham, Ala. for the Samford Invitational on Feb. 12-13.
