STARTING LINE: The 2015-16 indoor season continues for the Flying Tigers with the Commodore Indoor Invitational Jan. 15-16 at the Vanderbilt Multipurpose Facility. TSU is in action for the third time on the season, having already taken part in the Vanderbilt Indoor Opener and Ed Temple Classic.

ABOUT THE FIELD: The loaded field is comprised of some of the top teams from around the region. The field includes: Alabama (M/W), Alabama A&M (M/W), Auburn (M/W), Belmont (M/W), Georgia Tech (M/W), Lipscomb (M/W), Michigan (M), MTSU (M/W), Miss. State (M/W), Murray State (W), South Alabama (M/W), Tennessee (M/W), Tennessee St. (M/W), Tennessee Tech (W), Trevecca Nazarene (M/W), Vanderbilt (M/W), Western Kentucky (M/W).

LAST TIME OUT: At the Ed Temple Classic on Jan. 10, Quamel Prince continued to impress in the 800m, turning in a winning time of 1:52.50. In the 55m hurdles, Jemarruse Amos and Shawn Harris captured the top two spots. With a time of 7.68 seconds, Amos won the event, with Harris taking second place in 7.94 seconds.

Justin Young was victorious in the pole vault for TSU, clearing the bar at 3.99m (13’1”) on his first attempt, and in the final event of the day, Jontue McDowell, Malik Wright, Jason Griffin and Prince won the 4x400m relay in 3:20.26.

OVC WEEKLY AWARDS: TSU swept the first round of the Ohio Valley Conference Weekly Awards with Quamel Prince earning Adidas OVC Track Athlete of the Week and Shaquille Cragwall taking home Adidas OVC Field Athlete of the Week on Jan. 13.

Prince ranks among the nation’s best in the 800m with a time of 1:51.13 from the Vanderbilt Indoor Opener. Excelling in the field events, Cragwall posted the best triple jump distance in the conference of 14.94m at the Ed Temple Classic over the weekend.

CLOSE TO HOME: TSU will compete in six indoor meets leading up to the OVC Indoor Championship. Of the six, four are in the state of Tennessee. The Indoor Championship will also be hosted by TSU at the Wilma Rudolph Indoor Track inside the Gentry Center.

UP NEXT: TSU will make the trip to Bloomington, Ind. for the Gladstein Invitational on Jan. 22 and Jan. 23.
