STARTING LINE: The Tennessee State men’s track and field team will host the Ed Temple Classic at the Wilma Rudolph Indoor Track inside the Gentry Center on Sunday, Jan. 10. The meet, which is the second of the indoor season for the Tigers, is the team’s first competition since the Vanderbilt Season Opener on Dec. 5.

ABOUT THE FIELD: The field for the Ed Temple Classic includes TSU, Austin Peay, Kentucky State, Fontbonne, Tennessee Tech, Middle Tennessee and Fisk.

LAST TIME OUT: Tennessee State kicked off the 2015-16 indoor season at the Vanderbilt Season Opener on Dec. 5. Highlighting the effort was a number of strong performances and top three finishes. In the 200m, Malik Wright, Jerome Henderson III and James Stewart finished 1-2-3 to sweep the event. Quamel Prince also took home third in the 800m in 1:51.13, while Marc McCoy was a third-place finisher in the triple jump. In the 4x400m relay, Prince and Wright teamed with Jason Griffin and Jontue McDowell to put together a second-place finish with a time of 3:16.85.

AT LAST YEAR’S EVENT: The TSU men’s and women’s teams combined for 11 first-place finishes at last year’s Ed Temple Classic. On the men’s side, Travon Alexander placed first in the 55m in 6.40, and Quamel Prince won the mile (4:31.65). In field events, Daryl Rice captured first in the high jump, and Roc-M Nesbitt was first in the shot put. Prince, Jason Griffin, Jakeenan Guthrie and Perry Stokes combined to win the 4x400m relay on the day.

IN THE NATION: Quamel Prince’s 800m time of 1:51.13 on Jan. 5 at the Vanderbilt Season Opener is the best in the nation so far this season.  Other top 50 performances in the nation for TSU include: Malik Wright (34th - 200m – 22.02), Jerome Henderson (40th – 200m – 22.09), Shaquille Cragwall (37th – Long Jump – 7.01m), Marc McCoy (15th – Triple Jump – 14.89m), Shaquille Cragwall (24th – Triple Jump – 14.65m).   

UP NEXT: The Tigers return to Vanderbilt to take part in the two-day Commodore Indoor Invitational on Jan. 15 and Jan. 16.
