NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee State track and field teams recorded 36 top-five finishes in TSU’s last tournament of 2014, the MTSU Christmas Invitational.
For the Tigerbelles, Kenyana Hampton (5:27.60) and Christian Pryor (2:20.35) placed fourth in the mile and 800 meter run, respectively.
Teammates Clairwin Dameus (7.34) and Amber Hughes (25.24) each notched fifth-place in the 55 and 200 meter dashes.
In the field events, Sharmill Whyatt came in second in the high jump after a leap of 1.68 meters and Angel Davis won the weight throw with a toss of 16.18 meters.
The Flying Tigers dominated the men’s 200 meter dash, as Travon Alexander (22.50), Jordan Green (22.83) and Perry Stokes (23.00) finished first through third.
TSU also placed three competitors in the top-five in the 400 and 800 meter dashes.
Quamel Prince (1:52.44) and Sabir Muhammed (5:18.38) wrapped up the track portion of the event with wins in the 800 meter and mile run.
Daryl Rice (1.88 meters) and Justin Young (3.96 meters) closed the day by taking home first prize in the high jump and pole vault.
The teams will next compete in the UAB Blazer Invitational on Jan. 9 in Birmingham, Ala.
