T&F Makes Strong Showing at Christmas Invitational

Murfreesboro, Tenn. - The Tennessee State University men and women's track and field squads began their 2011-12 campaign Saturday, at the MTSU Christmas Invitational.

The Tigerbelles and Flying Tigers both placed third overall in the meet.

The Tigerbelles 4x440-meter relay team earned a first place finish with a time of 4:06.14.

Senior Daniecce Ward placed second in the high jump with a mark of 1.63, while placing third in the triple jump with a mark of 11.80.

Carolyn Petway placed fourth in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7:59. Kya Riley finished third in the 400-yard dash with a time of 1:00.81.

Latia Carney finished third and Brielle Moore finished fourth with times of 8.71 and 8.72 in the 55-meter hurdles.

Brittani Logan placed fourth in the weight throw with mark of 13.97m. Charita Harris placed third with a time of 2:24.84, while freshman Leah Carr finished in fourth with a time of 2:55.62.

The Flying Tigers were led by performances from Jamill Jackson who grabbed a first place spot in the 800m race with a time of 2:00.02, while Desmond Trice finished right behind him with time of 2:00.92. Donnie Johnson rounded out the top five finishes with a time of 2:02.82.

Tamorron Key earned a first place finish in the pole vault with a mark of 2.90m.

Lequinn Davis registered a third place finish in the 200m dash with a 22.46 mark, while Lamonte Burton finished in fourth with a time of 50.64 in the 400m dash.

Senior Chris Hobbs finished fifth in the one-mile race while clocking in with a time of 4:42.08.

Christopher Hawkins posted a second place in the 55m hurdles with a time of 8.23.

In the 4x400m relay, the men earned a third place finish with a time of 3:24.21.

Sean Jenkins registered a third place finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.88m.

Next up for Big Blue, TSU will start off the new year by hosting the Ed Temple Classic at the Gentry Center on January 7th, 2012.
