Nashville,Tenn. - The Tennessee State University men and women's cross country team will travel to Chattanooga when they compete in the Front Runner Classic hosted by UT Chattanooga, on Saturday, October 16th. The women's 2-mile is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. followed by the men's 5k at 4 p.m.
The competition will be the last of the regular season before both teams compete in the Ohio Valley Conference Championship on October 30th.
Teams set to compete at the classic include: Samford, West Georgia, Kennesaw State, Trevecca Nazarene, Tennessee (women only) and Middle Tennessee State.
For the women, this is their second meet in Chattanooga this season. On September 10th, the women finished eighth at the PowerAde Invitational, when they opened the season by running in a 2-mile race at Moccasin Bend. TSU was led by junior Brittany Washington and freshman Tiffany Harris. Washington clocked in with a time of 14:16 while earning a 42nd place finish, while Harris earned a 43rd place finish with a time of 14:22
Two weeks ago, both teams earned fourth place finishes at the Tennessee Tech Invitational (10/1). For the women in the 5k, Washington led the field for TSU with a time of 22:36 which earned her a 22nd place finish while Harris (23rd) and Breanna Adams (24th) followed with times of 22:56 and 23:15. Gabrielle Todd earned her career fastest time of 25:13 finishing 32nd.
In the men's 8k, the Tigers were led by Chris Hobbs who completed the course with a time 31:09 for 21st overall. Jonathan Owens clocked in with a time of 32:22 which landed him in 26th place and Phillip Myton earned a personal best by placing 28th with a time of 31:53.
Next up, the Tigers will take a week off to prepare to compete in the Ohio Valley Conference Championships on Saturday, October 30th. The race is hosted by Tennessee Tech in Cookeville.
