Atlanta, Ga. - The Tennessee State University men and women's cross country teams earned top-10 finishes in the team rankings at the Morehouse College Invitational, Saturday morning at Perkerson Park.
Overall, the Tigerbelles picked up their best team finish of the season placing third with 75 points while the Flying Tigers finished out sixth tallying a score of 119. Both teams finished second among Division I teams in competition.
In the women's 5k, Florida A&M won the meet (52), with Clark Atlanta (60) finishing as the runner-up.
The Tigerbelles were led by freshman Tiffany Harris who came in 11th overall with a time of 23:21.99. Following Harris was junior Brittany Washington who placed 12th with a time of 23:23.87. The women also had a career best from freshmen Andreanna Rowe who posted a time of 23:30.85 (14th) while Charita Harris fell in with a time of 23:49.28 (16th).
Host Morehouse (20) captured the 8K race with Florida A&M (67), Clark Atlanta (89), Albany State (108), Fort Valley State (114) rounding out the top team scores
For the men in their first competition of the season, senior Christopher Hobbs was TSU's top finisher with a time of 32:10.61, which was good for 15th place. Coming in second and third for TSU was senior Phillip Myton with a time of 32:41.93 which placed him in 17th, and Johnathan Owens earned an 18th place finish with a time of 32:42.22.
Next up for TSU, both teams will head to Cookeville when they compete in the Tennessee Tech Invitational on Friday, October 1st. The event will be held at the Southern Hills Golf Course at 3 p.m.
