Both XC teams fourth at TTU Invitational

Cookeville, Tenn. - With the 2010 Ohio Valley Conference Cross Country Championship approaching, Tennessee State University finished fourth overall in the team standings of both races at the Tennessee Tech Invitational on Friday evening.

The squads ran on this year's OVC Championship course in Cookeville, Tenn. while facing off against three conference teams.

The women finished with a score of 110 in the 5K behind winner, Murray State (25), Tennessee Tech (50), and UT Martin (58). Alabama A&M rounded the team rankings at 138.

Brittney Washington, Tiffany Harris, and Breanna Adams completed the course with back-to-back finshes from 22nd through 24th. Washington clocked in at 22:36 followed by Harris' time of 22:56 with Adams making her season debut with a time of 23:15.

Gabrielle Todd once again ran her fastest time on the Southern Hills Golf Course recording a new career time of 25:13 while finishing 32nd overall.

For the men, a score of 106 in the 8K finished behind meet winner, UT Martin (20). Tennessee Tech (79) tallied the second spot followed by Murray State (106).

Christopher Hobbs was TSU's top finisher with a time of 31:09 for 21st overall. Phillip Myton and Jonathan Owens followed with career performances.

Owens improved his time from last week with a mark of 31:53 for a 26th place finish. Myton ended the competition at 28th place with a personal record time of 32:22.

TSU cross country will take next week off and will return to action on Saturday, October 16th when they compete in Chattanooga for the second time this season at UT Chattanooga's Front Runner Classic. The first race is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. and will be held at the Moccasin Bend Race Course.
