Flying Tigers move ahead to Vanderbilt Invitational

Nashville, Tenn. - The Tennessee State University Flying Tigers will travel across town to compete in the Vanderbilt Invitational. Competition begins on Friday, April 22, and will conclude Saturday, April 23.

The meet will take place at the Vanderbilt Track and Field Complex located next to the McGugin Athletic Center and Rich Athletic Practice Facility. Competition will begin with the men's long jump at 3 p.m. with running events scheduled to start at 5 p.m. with the women's 200m.

Teams scheduled to compete include: Austin Peay (W), Belmont (M/W), Howard (M/W), Lee (Tenn.) (M/W), Lipscomb (M/W), Memphis (M/W), Middle Tennessee State (M/W), Southern Illinois (M/W), Southern Indiana (M/W), Tennessee (M/W), Tennessee Tech (W), Alabama-Birmingham (W), Vanderbilt (M/W), Virginia Commonwealth (M/W), Western Kentucky (M/W) as well as unattached athletes.

TSU will compete at the Invitational for the first time since the 2008 season when Bryan Johnson recorded the Flying Tigers' top performance at the meet. Johnson finished fifth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 53.80 seconds. RESULTS...

The team is coming off competition two weeks ago after competing at home in the Boston-Moon Classic. The Flying Tigers' all around effort was headed by Michael Rideout's finish in the 400m and Royce Dates in the long jump. Rideout broke the tape in first with a career fastest time of 47.61 seconds. Up next, the team will have another week off before competing in the Ohio Valley Conference from May 6 - 7 in Murray, Ky.
