Nashville, Tenn. - The Flying Tigers will hit the road for their next competition when Tennessee State University competes in the Saluki Open.
The meet is hosted by Southern Illinois and is slated for Jan. 14-15 at the Student Recreation Center on the campus of SIU in Carbondale, Ill.
The two-day competition will consist of 20 teams ranging from Division I to NJCAA and NAIA teams.
Teams set to compete include: Alabama State (M/W), Arkansas State (M/W), Arkansas-Pine Bluff (M/W), Austin Peay State (W), Belmont (M), Jacksonville State (W), Mississippi Valley State (M/W), Missouri State (W), Murray State (W), Southeast Missouri State (M/W), Southern Illinois (M/W), Alabama-Birmingham (W), McKendree (M/W), Bethel, (M/W), Hannibal-LaGrage (M/W), Lindenwood (M/W), Missouri Baptist (M/W), Missouri State (M/W) and Rend Lake (M/W).
Last year, TSU competed in Carbondale, Ill. last year at SIU's SASF Invitational. Michael Rideout, Philip Myton, Jamal Henderson were members of the 4x400m relay team that recorded a time of 3:20.48 to finish third. Last week at home in the Ed Temple Classic, Walton posted a strong finish in the event. He was the top collegiate finisher; despite an overall fourth-place finish, he jumped 23-00.75, just six inches off first place.
Julian Mallory and Lequinn Davis finished in the top three in the 200m. Mallory won the event with a time of 22.31 seconds and Davis tallied third at 22.98 seconds. RECAP...
Next week, TSU will travel back to Murfreesboro, Tenn. to run in the Blue Raider Invitational hosted by Middle Tennessee State. The meet is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 22, inside the Murphy Center.
