Carbondale, Ill. The Tennessee State University men's track and field team completed the Saluki Open, hosted by Southern Illinois, on Saturday, finishing with notable performances in steep competition.
With 20 teams competing in the two-day event, the Flying Tigers managed to shed their team's top overall performances in the 400m and 4x400m relay.
Michael Rideout set the pace finishing second in the 400m. In his first appearance in the event this season, he clocked in with a time of 49.62.
In the sprints, Julian Mallory ran 6.99 seconds in the 60m finishing in fourth overall. He qualified for the finals with a time of 7.07 seconds. Mallory also finished eighth in the 200m recording a time of 22.6.
In the long jump, Xavier Walton grabbed fifth overall from his best jump in the preliminary flight. He recorded his best mark at 22-11.75 (7.00m).
TSU will continue indoor competition when they return to Murfreesboro, Tenn. for the Blue Raider Invitational. The meet is hosted by Middle Tennessee State and is set for Saturday, Jan. 22, at the Murphy Center.
