Nashville, Tenn. - The Tennessee State University men and women's cross country teams will conclude the 2010 season when they head to the Ohio Valley Conference championship, hosted by Tennessee Tech, on Saturday, October 30th. The women's 5k is slated to begin at 9 a.m. followed by the men's 8k.
The championship will be held at the Southern Hills Golf Course in Cookeville, Tenn. where earlier this season, both teams earned 4th place finishes during the TTU Invitational.
Both teams will try to improve from last year's performance when they finished in 10th place. The women's best finish in the conference championship dates back to 2001 when they placed 6th. The best showing for the men was also a 6th place finish in 1989.
The Tigerbelles will enter with their top runners in Brittany Washington, Tiffany Harris, Charita Harris, Andreanna Rowe, Gabrielle Todd, and Breanna Adams.
Washington (21:52), T. Harris (22:22), and Todd (24:26.77) had their career best times at the Commodore Classic (9/18). Todd will be the only runner for the Tigerbelles who competed in the 2009 conference championship, when she registered a time of 28:06.
Andreanna Rowe (23:30) and C. Harris (23:49) finished with their career best at the Morehouse Invitational (9/25). Breanna Adams ran her best time at the TTU Invitational (10/1) clocking in at 23:15.
Hobbs (31:09), Myton (32:22), Owens (31:53), and Combest (35:12) finished with their best times of the season on this year's championship course in the TTU Invitational (10/1). McMurtrey clocked in with a time of 39:13 at the Morehouse Invitational (9/25) for his best of the year.
Hobbs (33:57), Myton (37:31), Combest (39:38), Henderson (39:40), and McMurtrey (40:04), enter with experience against the OVC and will look to improve their times from last year's championship.
