Chattanooga, Tenn. - The Tennessee State University men and women's cross country teams finished the regular season at the Front Runner Classic, held at the Moccasin Bend Race Course, Saturday afternoon.
The women ran the 2-mile course finishing seventh, while the men ran the 5k in just their third event of the season for a sixth place finish in the team standings.
The women finished with a total score of 191 behind the winner, Samford (34), followed by Chattanooga (46), Middle Tennessee State (72), Tennessee (83), Kennesaw State (142), and West Georgia (175).
Finishing first for TSU was junior Brittany Washington, who completed the course in 13:31 for a 41st place finish. Following Washington were freshman, Breanna Adams, Charita Harris, and Andreanna Rowe who placed 43rd through 45th, with times of 13:40, 13:50, and 13:58 respectively. Washington, Adams, Harris, and Rowe bested their previous times earned earlier this season at the Moccasin Bend Race Course.
In the men's 5k, TSU finished with 168 points behind host Chattanooga (36), with Kennesaw State (38), MTSU (58), Samford (95), and West Georgia (115) following in the final team standings. Trevecca Nazarene (194) rounded out the team standings.
Junior Chris Hobbs led the Tigers by finishing the course in 18:14, which landed him in 37th place. Following Hobbs were consecutive finishes by Jonathan Owens who posted a time of 19:16, for a 40th place finish and Phillip Myton who finished 41st, with a time of 19:17. Donnie Johnson registered a time of 20:14, while finishing in 43rd.
Next up for TSU, the men and women's team will take a week off to prepare for the Ohio Valley Conference Championships in Cookeville, Tenn. The race will be held at the Southern Hills Golf Course on Saturday, October 30th.
