Flying Tigers head to OVC Indoor Championship

Nashville, Tenn. - The Tennessee State Flying Tigers will prepare for the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship. The meet is scheduled from Feb. 25-26 in Charleston, Ill. and will be hosted by Eastern Illinois inside the campus Lantz Arena.

The short list of OVC participating schools in men's indoor track and field includes teams from Eastern Illinois, Eastern Kentucky, and Southeast Missouri State.

The men's weight throw and long jump, along with the women's high jump, will kick-off on Friday at 4:00p.m. The championship will conclude the following day at 3:15 p.m. with the 4x400m relay.

The Flying Tigers are paced behind defending indoor high jump champion Arthur Combest. Combest will enter the championship ranked number one in the conference behind his top height of 6'8. He will also represent TSU in the 60m hurdles, ranked fourth, with a time of 8.15 (55).

The Tigers will have several top-five performers competing in six events on Friday. Julian Mallory is ranked third in the short dash with a time of 6.88 seconds (55), while Daryl Rice is ranked fourth posting a 6.91 (55).

Michael Rideout enters the event ranked fourth in the men's 400 meter dash with a time of 49.02. Royce Dates and Xavier Walton rank fourth and fifth in the men's long jump. Dates is fourth with a leap 23" 1.25, while Walton ranks fifth with a 23'0.75" mark.

The 4x400m relay team's fastest time of 3:20.85, recorded at their first meet of the season, is listed third on the performance list.

Last year, the Flying Tigers finished in fourth-place in the overall scoring. Combest led the charge scoring 16 points. Walton, Mallory and Jamal Henderson finished the sweep in the high jump competition behind Combest. Walton and the 4x400m relay team added points. Walton took second in the long jump and the relay quartet, which returns three legs, finished third. RECAP...

TSU's last time on the track before the championship was on Feb. 5 at the Middle Tennessee State Invitational. The 4x400m relay team picked up the only victory (3:24.27) with Dates and Michael Johnson finishing their events in second. RECAP...
