Flying Tigers end MTSU Xmas Invitational with first place finishes

Murfreesboro, Tenn. - The Tennessee State University men's track and field team sparked the 2009-10 season with two first-place awards at the MTSU Christmas Invitational, Saturday (12/12) afternoon.

Phillip Myton and Trenton Britt won their individual events respectively. Myton won the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.97 seconds and Britt finished first in the triple jump with a mark of 45-1 ¾ (13.76m).

Other events spotlighted the Tigers' performance include: the 4x400-meter relay team, Xavier Walton and Tyson Kemp each tallying third-place finishes. The 4x400-relay team  (Phillip Myton, Dwayne Johnson, De'Andre Dennis, Chris Hobbs) posted a time of 3:31.25. 

In the long jump, Walton opened the season with a mark of 23-2 ½ (7.07m). Newcomer Kemp completed the shot put uncorking a throw of 47-2 ½ (14.38m).

Next, TSU will host the Ed Temple Classic on Sunday, Jan. 10. Starting time of the meet is to be determined.
