Louisville, Ky. - After qualifying for the Mideast Region Championship by winning the Ohio Valley Conference long jump titles, Darreal Beal and Martinique Guice were eliminated from competing in the 2009 NCAA National Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Friday evening (5/29).
The meet, hosted by the University of Louisville at Cardinal Park, serves as a qualifier for the national championship. It features men and women's teams from 12 different states. Overall, the Mideast Region includes more than 80 schools and consistently features one of the deepest fields of nationally ranked teams.
The top-five finishers from each region automatically qualify for the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship on June 9-12.
Guice's 2009 outdoor-season undefeated streak came to an end finishing 21st out of a group of 32. The sophomore posted her best jump of the day jumping 19'04.75"
In his first trip to the region competition, Beal finished 25 out of 29 competitors. The junior measured at 22'11.25" for his best mark of the evening.
The 2009 NCAA Championship will be hosted by the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark.
