RODGERS, WILLIAMS PACE TSU IN FIRST DAY OF OVC INDOOR TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS

-- Rodgers wins Men's Long Jump and High Jump, Williams wins Women's High Jump - Tennessee State's women and men's track teams are poised in second and third place respectively after the first (of two) days of the OVC Track & Field Championships in Charleston, Illinois. The TSU Tigerbelles find themselves in second place with 29.0 points trailing host Eastern Illinois (38.0) after the Field events of day one. Junior Gladys Williams captured the women's high jump with a 5'06" (1.68m) effort and team mate Lanika Horn placed ninth with a 5' 02.25" (1.58m) jump. In the women's long jump, TSU's Mariele Hill finished second with an 18'07.75 (5.68m) jump. Michelle Stinnette finished sixth (18' 00") and Toya Sessoms finished eighth (17'06.75"). In men's action, the Tigers are in third place with 38.0 points, trailing Eastern Illinois (66.0) and Southeast Missouri (41.00). TSU finished 1-2 in the long jump with Dominique Rodgers capturing the championship with a jump of 25' 00.75" (7.64m) and Buford Williams finishing second with a leap of 24'11.25" (7.60m). Team mate Saihou Mbenga finished in the points at seventh place with a jump of 22'05.75" (6.85m). In the High Jump, Rodgers won the event with a leap of 6'09.50" (2.07m), followed by Buford Williams in fourth place (6'05.50") and Saihou Mbenga in ninth place (6'01.50"). The O'Reilly OVC Indoor Track & Field Championships will conclude on Saturday, 2/25/07 with the finals in the running events.
