TSU's DOMINIQUE WARD AND BUFORD WILLIAMS TAKE TOP OVC INDOOR TRACK HONORS
Tennessee State took home two of the six 2007 Ohio Valley Conference indoor awards in the voting by the league's head coaches. Tennessee State's Dominique Ward received Female Track Athlete of the Year honors while Buford Williams took Male Field Athlete of the Year accolades. The awards were announced Thursday in advance of the 2007 O'Reilly OVC Indoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held February 23-24 at the Lantz Indoor Fieldhouse in Charleston, Ill. Eastern Illinois plays host to the two-day event, which gets underway Friday at 4:00 p.m. Central. TSU's Dominque Ward, a junior middle distance runner, sits in the top spot on the OVC best lists in the 200 meters with a time of 24.80. The Beaufort, S.C., native, who holds the top 400-meter time with a mark of 55.65, will look to repeat as the 400-meter champion after taking the title in 2006 with time of 56.57. A junior jumper, Buford Williams ranks first in the OVC this season in the long jump with a leap of 25'08.00." The mark provisionally qualifies Williams for the upcoming NCAA Championships. The Nashville, Tenn., native will be looking for his second straight long jump title this season after taking the crown in 2006 with a jump of 24'06.50."
