TSU FLYING TIGERS HOST 5TH ANNUAL BOSTON-MOON TRACK CLASSIC SATURDAY

Nashville, TN. The Tennessee State University Flying Tiger Men's Track Squad will host their 5th Annual Men & Women Track Classic, Saturday, April 15, 2006 at the Ed Temple Track. The 12-team meet will include first time Seton Hall University men & women, under former TSU track star John Moon. Moon was a blazing sprinter while at TSU from 1958-61, tying world records in the 100 meter dash (10.0 sec) and in the 200 meter dash with a 20.0 time. Other men teams include: TSU, Murray State, Fisk University, Alabama A&M, Western Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Middle Tennessee State, Sewanee, Tennessee Tech, Florrissant Valley, and UT-Chattanooga. The women teams include: The TSU Tigerbelles, Vanderbilt, Western Kentucky, Middle Tennessee State, Fisk, Murray State, Tennessee Tech, Delaware State, Florrisant Valley, Alabama A&M, and Jacksonville State The field events will begin at 9:00 a.m. and the running events will start at 12:00 Noon. The Flying Tigers, under the leadership of Coach Kelly Carter, will feature Buford Williams (24'02.25") and Saihou Mbenga (23'04.75") in the long jump. Sprinter Chris Howell has clocked a 10.88 in the 100 meter dash, and has also run a 22.01 in the 200 meter dash. Other teammates who will compete in the 200 meter dash include Ronald Morris and Saihou Mbenga. Ronald Morris is also in the 400 meter dash, and has run a 48.73; Jared Kelly will be competing in the 110 meter hurdles. The Flying Tigers lead the OVC in the 4x100 relay with a time of 41.14 as their best outing this season. Top participants for the Tigerbelles under the leadership of Coach Chandra Cheeseborough, will include: Tierra Boyd -100 meter dash (12.18); Toya Sessoms 100 Meter dash (12.20); Tierra Boyd-200 meter dash (25.24); Margertha McLean-400 meter hurdles (1:03.00); Felicia Jeffers-800 meter dash (2:16.46); Dominique Ward-400 meter dash 56.21); Rebekah Robinson-400 meter dash (56.94); Lanika Horn-high jump (5'6"), 4x100 meter relay team (46.54), 4x400 meter relay team (3:48.63); and OVC Shot Put Champion Latheria Lewis with (46'08") her best mark.. On Thursday, April 13, 2006, the 13th Annual Edward S. Temple Seminars will be held at 9:40 a.m. at the Thomas Poag Auditorium in the Humanities Building. Former Tigerbelle Manager Dr. Pamela Peters will be the guest speaker. Coach John Moon of Seton Hall and his former TSU long jumper teammate Ralph Boston will conduct a Track Clinic at 4:00 p.m. in the Gentry Center Complex.. The Edward S. Temple Banquet will be held in Jane Elliott Hall at 6:00 p.m. Wit Seton Hall Track Coach John Moon will be the guest speaker. A special tribute presentation will be shown about Coach Ed Temple and his Tigerbelles, with special recognition of former TSU men's track performers and coaches.
