TIGERBELLES LOOK TO CHALLENGE AT OVC CHAMPIONSHIPS

NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State University Tigerbelle coach Chandra Cheeseborough has seen her team make progress during the course of the season as it has worked toward preparation for the 2005 O'Reilly Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Tigerbelles will make the short journey to Clarksville on Friday-Saturday for the event. TSU will be one of 10 teams in the women's field trying to unseed two-time defending champion Southeast Missouri. The Tigerbelles won the OVC two consecutive years in 2001 and '02. The Tigerebelles rank high in several events on the OVC best lists heading into the event. The 4x400 meter relay team had a best time of 3:46.31. Sophomore Latheria Lewis had the best through in the shot by more than four meet in the regular season, with a throw of 47'11.75" in the Boston-Moon Classic April 16. TSU was second in five other events. Jennifer Lawson had times of 11.92 in the 100-meter dash and 24.07 seconds in the 200-meters. Dominique Ward had a time of 55.80 in the 400-metersand Margertha McLean had a time of 1:05.36 in the 400-meter hurdles. Shanique Hector will compete for the pole vault title after recording a jump of 11'06.25" in the regular season. Austin Peay's Governors Stadium is the site of the event.
