PINE BLUFF, Ark. --- The Tennessee State University women's track and field team took fourth place over the weekend at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Relays. The Tigerbelles, who recorded 85 points, took home 10 top-five finishes. Tennessee State faced athletes from Southern University, Alabama State, Prairie View A&M, Grambling State, Jackson State, Hendrix College and host-Arkansas at Pine Bluff. In the running events, the Tigerbelles collected eight of their 11 top-five finishes. Senior Juanita Thomas (Detroit, Mich.) took second place in the 1,500m with a time of 5:00.52, trimmng nearly six seconds off her previous season best. Also coming away with a silver was freshman Porsche Buckner (Richton Park, Ill.), who was second in the 400m with a time of 57.38. Sophomore Sharay Staton (Florissant, Mo.) earned a bronze in the 800m with a timeo f 2:25.62 while senior Larisa Ray (Lansing, Mich.) finished fourth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:04.31. Sophomore Rae'Ven Richard took third in the 1,500m with a time of 5:07.94. Junior Shereka Roby (Nashville, Tenn.) led the way for the Tigerbelles in the field events. She took second in the high jump with a height of 5-00.00 and fifth in the triple jump with a measurement of 35-05.75. Sophomore Abby Champion (Lansing, Mich.) finished second in the pole vault with a height of 9-06.00. Tennessee State returns to action this weekend as it competes in the 110th Running of the Penn Relays in Philadelphia. More information on the event can be found by clicking here.
