SENIOR NICK HORTON TABBED MALE ATHLETE OF THE MEET FOR SECOND CONSECUTIVE YEAR
CHARLESTON, Ill. --- Senior Nick Horton of the Tennessee State University men's track and field team becomes only the fourth man ever to be crowned the Male Athlete of the Year twice in his undergraduate career. He led the Flying Tigers to a fourth-place finish at the 2004 Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships over the weekend. Horton repeated as champion in the 200m and 400m, setting new Lantz Fieldhouse records in the process, with times of 21.30 and 47.62, respectively. He also helped the 4x400 relay team (seniors Jermie Harris and Joshua Love and freshman Eric Stanberry), to gold, crossing the line in 3:19.39, almost two seconds faster than the competition. Also coming away with top-five finishes were junior Michael Smith, who took third in the 60m hurdles (8.22) and senior Antoine Ferrell , who took fifth in the high jump with a measurement of 1.87m (6-01.50). The Flying Tigers open their 2004 outdoor schedule on the road in Mississippi competing at the Jackson State Invitational on March 6.
