NICK HORTON AND FLYING TIGERS GET READY FOR OVC CHAMPIONSHIPS

CHARLESTON, Ill. --- Senior Nick Horton (Milwaukee, Wisc.) , last year's Ohio Valley Conference co-Male Athlete of the Year, will be looking to retain his crown for a second year at the 2004 OVC Indoor Championships to be held this weekend at Eastern Illinois. Last year, Horton won both the 200m and 400m titles and currently holds the best time in each event heading into the championships. He has already provisionally qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the 200m, which will be held March 12-13 at the Randal Tyson Indoor Track in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The Flying Tigers have the best 4x400m time in the OVC at 3:15.79, nearly three seconds ahead of the next fastest team. Junior Michael Smith (Flint, Mich.) has the second-fastest 55m hurdle time (7.63) while classmate Marcus Morris (Flint, Mich.) has the top OVC time in the 60m hurdles (7.92) heading into this weekend. In the 800m, senior Eric Stanberry and junior Joshua Love (Jackson, Tenn.) both have top-10 times. Competition gets underway on Friday, February 27 at 3 p.m. CST and will continue on Saturday, February 28 beginning at 10 a.m. CST.
