MATCH INFORMATION: The Tennessee State men's tennis team will take the short trip to Murfreesboro, Tennessee, for the three-day Coach Dick Lalance Showdown against MTSU, Troy and Belmont Sept. 29 – Oct. 1.
LAST TIME OUT: The men’s tennis team opened fall season placing fourth in the HBCU Invitational in Atlanta Sept. 14-16. The four-day tournament began with a round of 64 singles and 32 doubles. Senior Shashank Nautiyal and freshman Tanishq Mahendru went undefeated in singles, winning both B and C Flights. Doubles team Shashank Nautiyal and Pavle Popovic went undefeated in doubles.
ABOUT MTSU: The Blue Raiders had a successful start to its fall season as senior Jan Porteset, junior Jacob Pugh and freshman Chris Edge all went undefeated in singles against Princeton, Penn, Columbia and Georgetown. In its home opener, three of MTSU’s men again went undefeated in singles against Lipscomb, UAB and Austin Peay.
ABOUT TROY: The Trojans will open their 2017-18 season at MTSU. Last season, Troy advanced to the Sun Belt Championship, but lost to then ranked, Georgia State 4-1.
ABOUT BELMONT: The Bruins competed against eight schools in its fall opening Greater Cincinnati Collegiate Invitational Tournament. The team is returning two seniors in Stephen Goldman and Caio Niel, and two top-performing juniors in Zak Khan and Hendrik Inno. Goldman was the champion in Flight 4 singles. The remaining four in the Bruin lineup are freshman.
UP NEXT: The Showdown marks the end of the men’s fall season. The Tigers will return to MTSU Jan. 28 to begin regular season play.
