NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State men’s tennis junior Grant Maddox (Greenbrier, Tenn.) earned a spot on the CoSIDA Academic At-Large District 3 team, it was announced on Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The honor was voted on by sports information directors working in Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia.
Maddox, who recently completed his junior year in the classroom, holds a 4.0 grade point average as a business administration major. On the tennis court, Maddox posted a 7-6 overall singles record to help lead the Tigers to the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament for the first time since 2003.
To be eligible to be on the ballot for the honor, student-athletes had to have achieved at least a 3.30 cumulative gpa, be at least a sophomore in the classroom and be a starter or key contributor to their team.
First-Team Academic All-District members advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
