TSU Men's Tennis Looks to Close Season on High Note

OPENING SERVE: The Tennessee State men’s tennis team will wrap up the season with a home match at Hadley Park versus Belmont on Thursday. TSU is looking for its second Ohio Valley Conference victory of the season.

LAST TIME OUT: In a highly-competitive match on April 12, the Tigers lost at Murray State by a 4-3 final score. Grant Maddox (Greenbrier, Tenn.) and Kyle Burton (Madison, Tenn.) paired for a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles. In singles, Burton picked up a win at the No. 4 position, while Shashank Nautiyal (Delhi, India) and Jorge Rodriguez (Bogota, Colombia) also won in their No. 2 and No. 3 matches, respectively.

ABOUT BELMONT: The Bruins are 8-9 overall and 4-4 in the Ohio Valley Conference. Belmont had won three in a row before a 4-3 loss at Austin Peay on April 9. Cedric Dujacquier leads the Bruins with a 15-10 singles record, including an 11-5 mark at No. 1 singles.

LAST SEASON VS. BELMONT: In last year’s meeting at Belmont, TSU was handed a 5-1 loss in a match that only featured singles action. Kyle Burton (Madison, Tenn.) secured a point for the Tigers with a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles.

BACK AT IT AGAIN DANIEL - FINAL MATCH: Senior Daniel Bernal (Bogota, Colombia) will be playing his final collegiate match on Thursday. Playing No. 1 singles throughout most of his time at TSU, Bernal has won 22 matches. He will be honored with a Senior Day ceremony prior to Thursday’s match.
