OPENING SERVE: The Tennessee State men’s tennis team hits the home stretch of the regular season schedule with road matches at Austin Peay, Murray State and Alabama A&M.

LAST TIME OUT: The Tigers are coming off their first victory over an Ohio Valley Conference opponent since the 2002 season with the April 2 win at Eastern Illinois by a 4-3 final score. Daniel Bernal (Bogota, Colombia), Jorge Rodriguez (Bogota, Colombia), Kyle Burton (Madison, Tenn.) and Grant Maddox (Greenbrier, Tenn.) secured singles victories on the day.

ABOUT AUSTIN PEAY: The Governors have gone 4-1 in their last five matches and carry a 3-2 OVC mark into the showdown with TSU. Austin Peay, which is 3-1 at home this season, is led by Manuel Montenegro’s five singles wins.

ABOUT MURRAY STATE: The Racers enter Saturday’s match with a 2-19 overall record, seeking their first win since a 4-3 victory over Tennessee Wesleyan on March 8. Splitting time between the top two singles positions, Marcel Ueltzhoeffer has won seven singles matches, while Javier Villar has also secured seven wins.

ABOUT ALABAMA A&M: The Bulldogs are 0-12, coming off recent losses to Auburn and Troy. Mateo Monroy and Nishangan Nadaraja lead Alabama A&M with three singles victories apiece.

OVC PLAYOFF PICTURE: TSU currently sits in ninth place in the Ohio Valley Conference regular season standings with a 1-5 league record. With three OVC matches remaining, the Tigers are still in contention to place in the top six in the final standings to qualify for the OVC Tournament.

OVC PRESEASON POLL: TSU was selected to finish 10th in the Ohio Valley Conference preseason poll. Eastern Kentucky and Tennessee Tech tied for first in the poll, followed by Belmont and Jacksonville State in a two-way tie for third place. Austin Peay, Morehead State, SIUE, Eastern Illinois, Murray State and TSU rounded out the poll.
