Tigers Cruise Past Arkansas Pine Bluff, 7-0

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Competing for the first time this spring, the Tennessee State men’s tennis team cruised to a 7-0 home victory over Arkansas Pine Bluff at the Hadley Park Bubble on Saturday afternoon.

“This was a good win for the guys,” TSU Head Coach Monroe Walker III said. “We need to learn from this match and come with more intensity to start the match. We have to be ready from the first ball. Overall, I was very happy, and we played well.”

The Tigers won at all three doubles matches and swept the singles matches.

In doubles, TSU’s top pairing of Shashank Nautiyal (Delhi, India) and Kyle Burton (Madison, Tenn.) won by a 6-3 final score, while Grant Maddox (Greenbrier, Tenn.) and Daniel Bernal (Bogota, Colombia) were 6-4 winners at No. 2. Completing the sweep, Jorge Rodriguez (Bogota, Colombia) and Amir Daniel (Atlanta, Ga.) picked up a 6-1 win.

Bernal battled Arkansas Pine Bluff’s Sajid Rahman at No. 1 singles, earning a 6-3, 6-2 victory. At No. 2, Nautiyal played his way to a 6-1, 6-4 win over Greig.

At the middle two positions, Burton won in straight sets at No. 3 singles and Rodriguez picked up a No. 4 victory.
