NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee State University men’s tennis team fell 5-1 to Eastern Illinois in its first OVC action of the season at the APSU Indoor Tennis Center on Friday.
The Tigers (0-5, 0-1 OVC) received a stellar performance from Kyle Burton, but he was the lone point as the Panthers (2-8, 1-0 OVC) lost only one set the rest of the way.
EIU began with three straight points. The Tigers’ Joe Daniels fell in straight sets to Ryan Henderson followed by a straight set defeat for Darryl Hale at the hands of Robert Skolik. Coupled with a forfeit, TSU saw a 3-0 deficit.
Burton got the Tigers on the board with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Rui Silva. EIU grabbed the remainder of the points, though.
TSU will return to action on Sunday as they continue conference play. They host SIUE at 3:00 p.m.
