NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee State men’s tennis team took a brief break from conference play on Thursday to host Oral Roberts. There were many tightly contested matchups, but the Tigers fell, 6-1.
In the doubles portion, TSU’s Daniel Bernal and Kyle Burton defeated Parker Allen and Amar Saletovic, 5-3, but Joseph Daniels and Jared Asher fell, 8-2, to give the Golden Eagles the first point.
Bernal, playing in the No. 1 position, turned in a great singles match with the sun setting and a gallery watching. Bernal lost to Amar Saletovic, 6-3, 6-3, but many of the long rallies could have gone either way.
Burton’s match turned out to me even more thrilling when he squared off against another finesse player in Jack Busby. Each player used many drop shots, but Busby came out on top, 7-5, 6-4.
Daniels notched the first victory of the day for TSU by coming back from a bad first set to beat Parker Allen, 1-6, 6-0, 6-4.
Branden McClain and Jared Asher dropped the final two matches, giving Oral Roberts the victory.
TSU will next hit the road for matches against Murray State on Saturday and Austin Peay on Sunday.
