TSU Tennis Falls to JSU in Final Home Match

Nashville, Tenn. - The Tennessee State University men's and women's tennis programs dropped their contests to Jacksonville State on Sunday afternoon in the home finale at the TSU Tennis Complex.

The women (0-11, 0-9 Ohio Valley) fell 7-0, while the men (0-10, 0-8 OVC) lost 6-1 in TSU's final OVC match this season.

The TSU men dropped the doubles point, losing in all three contests. The top duo of Lawrence Washington and Shaun Ingram fell 8-5 to the Gamecocks' Axel Sundberg and Nenad Marcec.

TSU's Jared Asher/William Simmons lost 8-1 to Igor Santos/Jordan Cowling, while the Big Blue lost the third doubles contest by default.

Washington picked up his second straight singles win, battling Sundberg in a three-set battle (2-6, 6-3, 10-8). Santos swept Ingram (6-0, 6-0), while Marcec won over Simmons (6-1, 6-0).

In the four spot, Asher fell 6-0, 6-0 to JSU's Cowling. James Shelton lost the fifth point with a 6-0, 6-0 defeat to Felipe Wantanabe. TSU forfeited the sixth singles match.

In women's doubles action, Jacksonville State's Raisa Guasti and Raphaela Lima knocked off Lauren and London Thomas, 8-1. TSU's Melynda Simmons/Kryston Mason fell 8-1 to Rafaela Wenzel/Zoe Bizinos, 8-1. Shardel Suber and Khadijah Williams lost the number three match to Kelly Tomlin and Aleksandra Cmilijic, 8-0.

In the top singles match, Simmons lost 6-2, 6-0 to Guasti. JSU's Lima won in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) over London Thomas, while Wenzel defeated Lauren Thomas in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) to claim the point.

The Big Blue's Mason fell 6-0, 6-1 to Bizinos, while Danielle Kerindi won 6-0, 6-0 over Suber. Cmilijic claimed the sixth singles point with a sweep (6-0, 6-0) over Williams.

Tennessee State plays a pair of tennis matches on Monday (11 a.m.) and Tuesday (8 a.m.) against Mississippi Valley State to close out the regular season.
