Tiger Tennis player Lawrence Washington named OVC Co-Athlete of the Week

Nashville, Tenn. - The Ohio Valley Conference named Tennessee State University men's tennis player, Lawrence Washington , the league's co-player of the week. Washington receives his first career weekly honor award the conference.

He shares the honor with Eastern Kentucky's Alex Das.

Washington, a native of Canton, Mich. captured his only conference match of the week winning in No.1 singles play during the Tigers' 6-1 loss to Jacksonville State. He outlasted Brian Kenyon, 6-2, 6-4, recording his first career win with the Big Blue. The win in No. 1 singles play is a first for TSU in quite some time. 

The sophomore transferred in this year from Kennesaw State where he played at the No. 1 singles spot in 17 of 19 matches. Washington currently holds a 1-3 record in singles competition on the year.

Next, TSU Tennis will travel to Charleston, Ill. to play Eastern Illinois in OVC play. The match is slated for a 10 a.m. start.
