Nashville, Tenn. – The Tennessee State University men's tennis team dropped their Ohio Valley Conference home match to Jacksonville State, 5-0, Friday afternoon. Due to the inclement weather in the Nashville area, the teams did not play doubles and the match was held inside the Hadley Park Tennis Bubble.
The Tigers move to 0-11 overall and 0-7 in OVC play while JSU improves to 17-2 (5-1 OVC).
The Tigers lost three sets, 6-0, and an additional three, 6-1. Justin Hamm fell at No.1 to Scott Robertson, 6-0, 6-1. In No. 4, Michael Mosley dropped, 8-1, to Chris Duke. The Gamecocks grabbed the final two match-ups by a 3-0 retire and default.
The Tigers will end the regular season in OVC play at home, when they host Tennessee Tech on Saturday, April 11th. Match start is scheduled for 10 a.m.
The Golden Eagles' men (10-7, 5-2 OVC) are fresh off a tight 4-3 conference loss to Eastern Kentucky on Friday (4/10). TTU is 5-6 on the road and are led by OVC top player, Dean O'Brien (15-1).
For the TTU women's squad (7-7, 6-2), Kelly Holtzhausen (19-3) leads the Golden Eagles in No.1 play and has powered their three-game win streak including a 6-0 shutout over Eastern Kentucky (4/10).
As a result of their record, the Tigers are eliminated from the 2009 OVC Tennis Championship on April 17-19 in Paducah, Ky. The championship will be hosted by Murray State.
