MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. --- Tennessee State carded a 9-over, 297 during the second round of the Ohio Valley Conference Championships at the Robert Trent Jones at the Shoals Fighting Joe Course on Tuesday. The round was strong enough for the Tigers to jump to ninth ahead of Belmont in the standings. TSU will enter the final day with a one stroke lead over the Bruins and a 32 stroke advantage over Eastern Illinois.
TSU will be paired with Morehead State and Murray State on Wednesday. The Tigers trail the Eagles by 19 strokes and the Racers by 17. Eastern Kentucky is currently in first place at 7-under, just ahead of SIUE at 5-under.
Kody Rendleman and Rosario Falzone led the Tigers during round two as both recorded a 1-under, 71. Rendleman has a strong ball striking day as he hit 13 of 14 fairways. The junior college transfer used three birdies and 13 pars to cut nine strokes off of his day one performance.
Falzone matched Rendleman with three birdies and 13 pars on his way to his second best round of the year and bettering his day one score by 10 strokes. The sophomore highlighted the day with a 35 foot putt for birdie on the par-4, 8th, and hit a 9-iron on his approach on the par-5, 12th, to six inches to set up his final birdie of the day.
Jermey Fultz was on pace to match his 1-under from day one until running into trouble on the par-5, 17th. Fultz lost three strokes and finished the day with a 2-over, 74. The junior is sitting in 12 th place at 1-over and is one stroke out of the top 10 and five strokes out of the top five.
Drew Owens posted the final scoring round with a 9-over, 81, while Todd McGill finished with a 10-over, 82.
McGill will head out first at 8:50 a.m. on Wednesday morning and will be followed by Owens at 9:00 a.m., Falzone at 9:10 a.m., Rendleman at 9:20 a.m. and Fultz at 9:30 a.m.
