MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – The 2016 Ohio Valley Conference Championship came to a close with Tennessee State placing 10th with a 69-over, 933 (309-311-313). Jermey Fultz led the Tigers, and placed 14th in the field of 55, with a 6-over, 222.
UT Martin claimed its first ever OVC Championship with a 15-over, 879. The Skyhawks edged out Morehead State by a stroke and Jacksonville State by two.
UTM’s Hunter Richardson claimed individual honors at 5-under, three shots better than Will Sallee from EKU.
Fultz made 12 pars through the first 16 holes, before dropping two birdies over the last three holes to post a 2-over, 74, on the final day. On the par-4, 16th, Fultz hit a wedge from 115 yards out to three feet for his first birdie of the day. The sophomore found success on the par-3, 18th, for the second consecutive day. Fultz used a 5-iron off the tee box, landing 12 feet past the hole, setting up a downhill putt for his final shot of the championships.
Drew Owens and Sam Gatlin scored for the Tigers for the third consecutive round with a 77 and an 81, respectively.
Rosario Falzone carded the final scoring round for TSU on Wednesday with a 9-over, 81. The freshman hit 11 fairways and 11 greens with one birdie. Falzone opened the day with a par and followed by sinking a 35 foot putt for birdie on the par-4, 2nd.
