Men's Golf 11th After Day One of Bobby Nichols Intercollegaite

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee State completed the first round of the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate hosted by Tennessee Tech with a 17-over, 305. The Tigers are 11th out of a field of 12 after the first day of the three day event.

Murray State leads the competition at 6-under, 282.

Jermey Fultz tops the Tigers through the first 18 holes with a 1-under, 71, and is tied for 10th. Fultz is four strokes off the lead after recording six birdies on the day, second most of day one and one less than co-leader Blake Smith of Western Kentucky. Fultz found his most success on the four par-5’s on the course firing 3-under.

Drew Owens led the field, along with tournament co-leader Preston French (Murray State), with play on the par-3’s at 2-under leading to a 4-over, 76 on Sunday.

Sam Gatlin registered 13 pars on the day helping him to a 6-over, 78, while Todd McGill recorded the final scoring round for the Tigers with an 8-over, 80.

Senior Blake Burgett fired a non-scoring 12-over, 84, for TSU.

The men will tee-off for round two at 1:30 p.m. on Monday afternoon at the Sevierville Golf Club’s River Course.
