Andrew Warner Accrues FEI Academic Award

Nashville, Tenn. – On Apr. 23, the Nashville Chapter of Financial Executives International (FEI) presented an award to the outstanding accounting or finance student, either a junior or senior, from each of eight universities in Middle Tennessee. This year’s winner from Tennessee State was Andrew Warner, a member of the TSU golf team.

Warner’s professors selected him from all of TSU’s other accounting and finance majors because of his commitment to academic excellence and his hard work in the classroom.

Other than the recognition he received at the FEI’s annual banquet, Warner also was awarded a cash prize, a certificate and access to FEI’s subscriptions.

“I was pretty excited that I won,” Warner said. “Everyone at the banquet kept talking about what a great and prestigious group the FEI is, so it felt good to be honored by them and, hopefully, it leads to success after college.”

Following his career at TSU, Warner hopes to “experience a variety of accounting jobs, and one day own a business”.

Currently, Warner is in the midst of his junior season, and recently helped the Tigers secure an eighth place finish in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.

Warner even said that the analytical nature of accounting class has helped make him a better golfer and vice-versa.

“In golf, you encounter a lot of unforeseen problems that require you to figure them out. It is the same in business where some risks aren’t calculated and require you to manage the problem. Golf has also allowed me to see outside the box, resulting in new ideas,” Warner said.

Warner and the rest of the Tigers hope that they won’t encounter too many problems when the team concludes its season in Port St. Lucie, Fla. at the 2013 PGA Minority Championship.
