Rain Forces Delay for Men's Golf, 11th Heading Into Tuesday

MORGANTOWN, N.C. - The men's golf started strong at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate hosted by Appalachian State University, but was slowed down by rain. After a delay, play continued only to have the second round halted after 14 holes due to darkness.  Tennessee State shot a 7-over 289, eleven shots behind team leader Elon (4-under 278) on the Par 70, 6,718 yard course. Only to fall off the pace when second round play resumed. TSU ended the day 29 shots behind new leader James Madison.

Andrew Warner led the Tigers through the first 18-holes with a 1-under 69. Warner bogied the third hole, but bounced back with par-play and birdies on five, twelve and the par-3 17th. The junior could not escape the 18th hole and finished with a bogey placing him in a tie for 6th, one shot behind a group of five golfers, after the first round. Warner struggled in the later round and has fallen to 7-over through 32.

Dallas Hill used birdies on the only two par-5 holes, seven and 14, on the course to shoot a 1-over 71 during the first round. The Tigers started on the 10th hole in the afternoon and the back-nine got the better of Hill to open round two. The sophomore began with a double bogey on ten and recorded bogies on five of the last six holes. Hill birdied the second-to-last hole of the day and enters Tuesday at 9-over.

Cameron Scitern registered 16 pars in the morning session for a 3-over 73. Scitern was able to card a birdie on the par-5 14th, but could only manage a 4-over through the first 14 on Monday afternoon.

James Stepp shot a 7-over 77 to open the day despite picking up a birdie on the fourth hole. The sophomore lefty notched a birdie on the par-5 14th late in the day and sits at 13-over through the first 32 holes.

Codie Welborn scored for TSU during an up and down first round with a 6-over 76. Welborn shot over par on seven holes, but was able to pick up birdies on the 4th, 10th and 18th. The junior dropped birdies on 12 and 14 to start the later session on a good note, but came back to par play for the round with a double bogey on 15. Through 32 holes, Welborn is 8-over par.

Play will resume at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday morning with the final round beginning immediately after the end of the second round.
