Men's golf places 7th at Fossum Invitational

East Lansing, Mich. --- The Tennessee State University men's golf team opened up the 2011 season with a seventh place finish at the Fossum Invitational hosted by Michigan State.

Cameron Scitern led Tennessee State with a 2-over-par score of 216. He shot 72 in the opening round before carding a 2-under-par 70 in round two. Scitern recorded his highest score (76) in the third round.

James Stepp (T35) finished with a 228 behind scores of 74-81-73 while Ryan Pierson registered a 37th place finish with a 229 (75-77-77).

Andrew Warner (77-75-79) and Dallas Hill (78-76-80) rounded out the scorers for TSU with scores of 231 and 234, respectively.

As a team, Tennessee State shot 298 in the opening round. The Tigers recorded a score of 298 in the second stanza before closing out the tournament with another 305. TSU finished with a score of 901, good for seventh place.

IUPUI won the tournament, which was held at the Forest Akers golf course. Host Michigan State finished second while Oakland University placed third.

The Tigers return to action on Friday, Sept. 23 when they travel to Atlanta to participate in the National Black College Hall of Fame Invitational.
