Men's golf tees up for PGA Minority Championship

Nashville, Tenn. - The Tennessee State University men's golf team will travel to Port St. Lucie, Fla., to compete in the 25th PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship from May 6 - 8 at the PGA Golf Club.

The 54-hole, stroke-play Championship will  consist three rounds in the following divisions: Men's Division I, Division II; Women and Independent Men's and Women's.

TSU will compete in the Division I field that includes Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Bethune-Cookman, Florida A&M, Hampton University, North Carolina Central, Prairie View A&M, Savannah State, Texas Southern, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, and University of Texas Pan-American.

University of Texas-Pan American claimed the team title last year after shooting a 291-final round for a total stroke count of 872. TSU trailed by three strokes after the second round but could not make up the count of finishing second overall shooting rounds of 295, 289, and 290 for 874.

After a tough showing  at the Ohio Valley Conference Championship (4/25-28), the Tigers will look to improve after finishing seventh overall.

Andre Warner, who was named adidas Ohio Valley Conference Athlete of the Week once this season, comes in to the tournament leading the team with a (+4) 75.9 stroke average finishing in the top five on  three occasions. Cameron Scitern is right behind him with a 76.0 average finishing in the top five once while Ryan Smith rounds out the top three with a 76.1

Owned and operated by The PGA of America, and ranked among the "75 Best Golf Resorts" by Golf Digest, the par-72, 7,210 yardage course will tee off with the men playing on the Wannamaker course.

The debut broadcast of the 2011 highlight show will air on the Golf Channel Wed., June 29 at 8:00 p.m. Additional airing times will be July 4th at 9:00 a.m., and July 26th at 5:00 p.m. (All Times Eastern).
