Grover Page Classic up next for men's golf

Nashville --- The Tennessee State University men's golf team will tee off at the fifth annual Grover Page Classic held at the Jackson Country Club in Jackson, Tenn.

The Classic will take place from March 13-15 and is hosted by OVC opponent The University of Tennessee at Martin.

The Jackson Country Club, a par 72, 6,783-yard course, will host 15 teams, including participants from Arkansas State, Bethel College, Chicago State, Jackson State, John A. Logan College, Lambuth, Lipscomb, Union and OVC members Morehead State, Murray State, Southern Illinois and Tennessee Tech.

Last year, TSU notched a third place finish at the Grover Page Classic. The Tigers shot 27-over-par 891 with rounds of 292, 297 and the final round of 302. Several Tigers finished in the top 20 in the individual standings with Richard Gill drawing even with three other golfers for tenth.

Gill shot a final of 224 with rounds of 74, 76, and 74. Ryan Smith and Cameron Scitern tied for 19th with two other competitors shooting 227 overall (11-over-par).

Central Arkansas claimed the 2010 Grover Page Classic title while North Alabama finished second.

TSU is led by Andrew Warner with a +4 average of 75.9 while Ryan Smith follows in second with a 76.7. Richard Gill rounds out the top three averages for TSU with a 77.1.

The Classic is named after Grover Page, UT Martin's first golf coach, who led the program to eight NCAA Championship appearances.

First round action is set to kick-off on Monday morning at 8:30 a.m.
