Nashville, Tenn. --- Head coach Chip Taylor and the Tennessee State University men's golf team will conclude their fall season next week when they travel to Edwardsville, Ill. for the SIUE DoubleTree Intercollegiate. The event, hosted by Southern Illinois Edwardsville, will take place from October 24-26.
This will be TSU's first appearance in the tournament.
The three-round competition will take place at the par-72, 6,628-yard Sunset Hill Country Club against a field that includes Ball State, Chicago State, Eastern Illinois, Missouri State, North Dakota, and Southern Illinois.
This season, the Tigers have finished in the top five in the team standings in two of four tournaments. TSU captured a team title winning the National Black College Invitational and a 3rd place finish at the Alabama State Fall Classic.
Richard Gill leads the Tigers with a 3-over-par, 74.9 per stroke average. In four tournaments of the season, Gill has finished in the top five on one occasion.
Ryan Smith follows with a 75.2 per stroke average and has registered one finish in the top ten in the fall tournament play.
TSU hopes to improve their golf game from last week's 14th place finish from Austin Peay's F&M Bank Intercollegiate where they shot a three round total of 5-over-par 869. The Tigers posted their best round with a stroke total of 267 in the second round of the Intercollegiate last week.
Practice rounds are slated to begin on Sunday (Oct. 24) at 12 p.m. with first round action set to kick-off on Monday morning (Oct. 25) with an 8:15 a.m. shotgun start.
