Men's golf tees up for the National Black College Invitational

Nashville, Tenn. --- The Tennessee State University men's golf team will travel this weekend to Atlanta, Ga., to participate in the National Black College Invitational Golf Tournament hosted by the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame Foundation, Inc.

Held in conjunction with the Atlanta Football Classic and several National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame events, the Invitational will take place during the annual Hall of Fame Weekend (Sept. 24-26) held at the Browns Mill Golf Course.

The 18 hole, par-72 course measuring 6, 500 yards will host Division I and Division II teams. The majority of the squads fielding the Invitational include some of the top HBCU golf teams.  

The pool of competition include teams from: Alabama State, Florida A&M, Fayetteville State, Morehouse, Talladega, Livingstone, Hampton, Maryland Eastern Shores, Benedict, Paine, Jackson State, Savannah State, Winston-Salem State, Alabama A&M, St. Augustine and North Carolina Central.

The Tigers were scheduled to compete in last year's Classic but the competition was cancelled due to inclement weather. 

TSU is coming off a third-place finish from the Alabama State Classic where Dorian Vauls and Ryan Pierson led the Tigers, both posting identical scores of 152 overall.

The Hall of Fame will award scholarships to participating schools in support of their golf programs. Practice rounds are slated to start Friday with first round action teeing off on Saturday at 8 a.m.

Next, the men will travel to Daufuskie Island, S.C. to compete at Michigan State's annual Rees Jones Invitational from October 3 -5.
