Nashville, Tenn. - The Tennessee State University men and women golf teams released their 2009 fall schedule. The men will participate in five tournaments before the winter break with the women competing in four.
The defending PGA Men's Minority Collegiate National Champions return five-of-six players from last year's team and are led by senior Chris Seibel. Seibel finished with a team best 75.1 average while finishing seventh in the individual standings at the 2009 OVC Championships.
The squad adds freshman Cameron Scitern from Rockdale, Texas who was the 2009 District 24AAA Champion and helped his team win the Red River Challenge Cup in 2008. He also helped team USA win at the International Junior Golf Invitational in Mexico.
On the women's side, sophomores Mya Billingsley, Marie Black, and Jamie Pierce return after losing three players form last year's team. Black finished second on the team 93.4 average leading the Tigers at the 2008 OVC Championship placing 35th overall in the individual standings. The team will reload with newcomers freshman Jatoia Potts and senior Katelyn Dingeman.
Both teams will open the season when they compete in the Alabama State Fall Classic at Lagoon Park in Montgomery, Ala. on September 13-15.
The men's team will participate in several tournaments before rejoining the women's squad at Austin Peay State's F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate on October 18-20 in Clarksville, Tenn.
From September 25-27, the men's squad will head to the Atlanta, Ga. during the Atlanta Football Classic weekend to participate in the Black College Invitational Golf Tournament at the Browns Mill Golf Course hosted by the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame Foundation, Inc.
Following the tournament, the men will travel to Daufuskie Island, S.C. to play in Michigan State's Rees Jones Intercollegiate from October 4-6 at the Haig Point Golf Club. In the upcoming week, the Tigers will participate in the Skyhawk Classic hosted by Ohio Valley Conference opponent UT Martin on October 11-13. The classic will be held at the Paris Landing Golf Course in Buchanan, Tenn.
The women's team will play their separate schedule after the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate when they return to Montgomery, Ala. to compete in the Troy State Golf Invitational (10/25-27) at Troy Country Club. On November 8-10 the women will move ahead to Savannah, Ga. to finish the fall schedule at the SSU Tiger Fall Invitational hosted by Savannah State at the Henderson Golf Course.
The 2010 spring schedule will be released at a later date.
